Chapter 137 You Don't Know How To Love Him.
After cultivating for nearly the entire night, Iris slowly opened her eyes and was slightly surprised with the amount of Qi she had managed to condense into her dantian within a single night.
After all, she had only expected herself to reach to the 7th level of the Body Tempering Realm, possibility the 8th level if she was lucky, and yet here she currently was, at the 9th level, the very peak of the Body Tempering Realm.
This was undoubtedly the fastest cultivation progress that has ever been accomplished by modern cultivators within the past decade or so.
However, despite knowing how amazing this feat was, especially for a person who had just begun their cultivation journey, she knew that now wasn't the time to be complacent about it, as she was still nowhere near her peak strength back in her previous life.
Glancing at the clock hanging from the wall, which showed that it was currently 5:57 am, Iris got up from the floor, packed the bloodfire ruby back into her duffle bag for a later date, cleaned her room, and quickly did her morning routine before leaving her room to stand guard at Ronald's door as usual.
As soon as she had left her room however, she immediately took her dagger out from her right hand and threw it at a dark corner of the hallway.
"Come out." Seeing as though the dagger didn't pierce the wall and sounded like it punctured through flesh instead, Iris knew that her intuition was right and called out.
Moments later, a shadow began to emerge out of the dark corner with Iris's dagger pierced in their right hand, and Iris was surprised to find out that it was...
"Luna... what do you want." Iris spoke coldly but cautiously.
"Oh, nothing much. I just wanted to thank you for protecting my fiance this past month in person, and then tell you that you're no longer needed here." Luna, despite having blood dripping down her hand, paid no attention to it.
"What? I'm sorry, but I must've heard that last part wrong, can you repeat it again?" Iris couldn't believe what she was hearing in the morning all of a sudden and asked in an annoyed voice.
"No, you heard it correctly." Even though Luna smiled back in response, the smile appeared completely devoid of any emotions.
"So what you're saying is that I should just completely forget about Ronald and never come back? But why? What gives you the right to just drive me away like this?" Iris was absolutely furious now.
She didn't know why Luna was acting the way she currently was right now, but to try and seperate her and Ronald away from one another like this, especially when both her goals and Luna's are completely aligned, was completely unacceptable to her by all means.
"Because he's my fiance..." Luna spoke calmly before switching up to a more cold tone, "And because you prioritized collecting materials and becoming stronger over your duty to protect him, jeopardizing his safety in the process."@@@@
"That's it?" Although Iris had no idea how she had jeopardized Ronald's safety when she had absolutely made sure that he would be safe before she left, nor did she know how Luna knew of her current activites yesterday, she didn't try to refute back.
"Mainly? Yeah. I had specifically told my subordinates ahead of time to let you know that they'll be gone away from Ronald's side for a little while, and yet you had also decided to disappear from Ronald's side as soon as they left. What else are you good for if you can't even do such a mundane task while my subordinates are gone." Luna said harshly.
In Luna's mind, she felt as though permanently removing Iris from Ronald's side was the best course of action to do.
After all, based on everything that her subordinates had reported back to her about Iris, she could tell that Iris still had an extremely unstable mind even after regressing back, and Luna was worried that Iris's unstable mind would directly or indirectly affect Ronald's bright mind in the near future.
"..."
"To you, he's just another person that you're simply indebted to, but since he's given you so much in the past to the point where it would be impossible to repay it back even if you have lived up to a million years, you try to repay him back by pretending to care for him!"
"..."
"But your true nature has never changed, Luna, and even if you did truly love him with all of your heart, you don't know how to love him! So stop giving him a false sense of hope and leave him be!" Iris finally finished her long rant and took a deep breath.
Even though Iris knew that she had just went completely ballistic against Luna just now, she knew that Luna wouldn't understand any of it.
After all, having personally known Luna for practically over two and a half decades now, she knew that Luna was the most subborn person to ever grace this world.
And just as she had expected...
"...Are you done now?" Luna asked in a tone so bone-chilling that the temperature in the room couldn't help but drop down a couple of degrees.
It had been centuries since anyone had spoken to her like this without instantly getting killed, and now that she was being spoken to like this again, by someone she considered as insignificant no less, she wasn't too happy about it.
"..." Iris silently nodded back in response.
"Then pick up your dagger and let's get this over with." Luna ripped Iris's blade right out of her bloodied right hand and tossed it over to Iris's legs.
Although she was only at the 3rd level of the Body Tempering Realm while Iris was currently at the 9th level of the Body Tempering Realm, she was fairly confident that she could still easily beat Iris.
After all, other than the fact that she had watched Iris cultivated, she knew that the only way that Iris have managed to reach such a high level of Body Tempering Realm in such a short period of time was if she had used the Fragmented Soul Refinement Arts cultivation method.
And while the Fragmented Soul Refinement Art cultivation method did have its major advantages to it, it also has the major disadvantages and flaws that most normal cultivation methods have...
And Luna intended to display its flaws to Iris today before killing her.
Iris, having already somewhat expected Luna to be like this, effortlessly kicked up the dagger back to her hand and reverse gripped it as she got into a defensive position.
As the killing intent coming out from both Luna and Iris gradually grew stronger and stronger, both of them had arrived at the conclusion that this place would undoubtedly be the last time they would ever see each other again.
And just when both their killing intents were completely heightened to the max and Luna was about to make the first move however, the door to Ronald's room suddenly swung right open.
"Luna?"
