Chapter 53 55:A Reeling Feeling[II]
I failed to understand the significance of the matter as I could hear thousands of beings screaming in my ear with no way to differentiate.
It hurts.
It was ruefully painful like the scratching sound of metals amplified multiple times.
The pain was agonizing as I felt my head about to burst open from the screams. My lips opened for a scream, but I clenched my left fist, and the right arm that was grabbing it clutched it directly, with my nails digging deeper into the skin.
The pain revitalized my mind, making the screams bearable as my attention was shifted to the pain, and I instantly tried to understand just what was going on.
I closed my eyes, trying to focus on my senses. I attempted to guide the mana into my ears to perk up the sensation.
Slowly and steadily, I managed to hear it.
[Don't look... It's an evil spirit turned into a specter. If it notices that you can see it, it may stick to you and slowly influence you, and you aren't strong enough to deal with it.]
That was a sentence I could infer from countless murmurings. It might not be exact but something along this.
Running my mind, I immediately understood that it was dangerous to look at evil spirits, especially for a novice like me who doesn't have any skills in that particular field for now.
Yeah, but that was according to spirits who were kind enough to warn me. I have a way, but that doesn't mean I should rush at any random evil specter I meet.
Without much thought, I decided to deactivate the spectral vision and act normally, but before I could do that, the murmurings intensified.
[Don't... turn off. Don't turn it off...]
I knew spirits had unimaginable power, and people even used spirits of divination, but I don't know how they noticed my thoughts, nor do I have time for them.
I don't know if they can communicate with me through telepathy or read my mind. I mean, there are spirits like that, but I don't know about the ones who were talking to me.
I pulled the book and scribbled on the notebook.
WHY?
I tapped on it a few times, and as expected, I started hearing it.
[It's... lookin you... If... turn off... it will notice the change and flow of mana... Close your eyes and pretend.]
"Huh!"
My eyes opened abruptly as the sound broke my concentration. I turned around and saw Reed giving me weird gazes.
Then, I saw everyone packing their things and escaping like they were running from something.
"Do you have a fever? Why are you sweating so much? Do you want to go to the infirmary?" Reed asked with genuine concern.
"Nah, I'm good. It might be because I'm tired."
Instead of answering, I got up.
I rubbed the ring on my left finger to pull out the charm while activating the spectral vision.
Unlike before, all I saw were glittering orbs all around.
"Did it vanish? Is that even possible?"
I looked around, waiting for murmurs, but nothing audible echoed in my ears.
"Spirits... Are you the—" I was cut off by Reed.
"What are you mumbling out of nowhere? Have you gone insane?" Reed asked, nudging his glasses and patting me.
"Listen, bro. It seems you lack mental fortitude, because of which you are unable to tolerate the class of that geezer. Accept me as your master, and I shall bestow upon you the fortitude of bravery," Reed started grinning, widening his arms to pose.
"Yeah, whatever!" I shook him off and decided to retreat while using my gaze to search around.
Reed paused, seeing me running away.
"Did he accept the proposal to become my disciple? Kekekeke... Finally, I have found a worthy one." Reed started laughing wildly, walking away.
After everyone departed, the few ones who were leaving suddenly quivered.
"QUUU...."
"Why do I feel so cold suddenly?"
