Chapter 84 Playing with feelings
Chapter 84 Playing with feelings
The pleasant voice made Wen Ran turn to his left. There, in the moonlight, stood the silhouette of a woman he knew all too well. Her curvy figure made him inhale sharply, his breath catching for a moment. But he quickly calmed his racing heart. Somehow, after the system had forced him to choose the path of a demonic cultivator, his desires had become harder to control, pushing his morals into conflict with his growing urges.
"Sister Feng Yulan..." Wen Ran greeted her with a smile, trying to keep his composure. "I didn't expect to see you again. Could it be that you've also become an inner disciple?" He already knew the answer from her attire—her light yellow robes fit her perfectly, signaling her elevated position. He could also sense her great talent.
"Ah? Yes... but that's not the point right now!" she replied, panting slightly as she came closer. Her eyes, wide with concern, betrayed her worry and surprise. Wen Ran had heard rumors of his time in prison, and Feng Yulan, unable to accept his title as disciple while he was locked away, had raised a tantrum, insisting she wouldn't accept her position until he was freed. Seeing him now, healthy and standing tall, relieved her immensely.@@@@
"I heard you were in prison. Was that true?" she asked, her voice tinged with both sympathy and concern.
The wound in Wen Ran's pride reopened at her words, and for a moment, the anger he had suppressed surged within him. He wanted to curse those responsible for his humiliation, but instead, he looked up at the sky and sighed deeply, clasping his hands behind his back.
"I don't wish to talk about it right now," he said, his voice steady but tinged with an undertone of bitterness. "Yes, I had some misunderstandings with the sect, but it has been resolved. There's no need for Sister Feng to worry."
His calmness, coupled with his unwavering stance, seemed to send a warm shiver through her body. Feng Yulan couldn't explain why, but his words, and the confidence he exuded, filled her with admiration. She felt an unexpected warmth spread through her heart.
"Ah?! Me?" she stammered, her face reddening as she looked at him, clearly flustered. "No, no, no, I'm just happy to have you as my friend. I could never be stronger than Brother Wen." Her reaction was exactly what Wen Ran had been waiting for. He mentally thanked his handsome appearance, at least it was useful for something.
"Also, Sister Yulan, I have no place to stay tonight," Wen Ran said, his tone suddenly changing, becoming more serious. It was fun teasing her, but he was tired and needed some rest. "Do you know where the inner disciples sleep?"
Feng Yulan blinked, her expression shifting slightly. "Oh, that... Well, it's a little complicated. We have to stay in the mountains, in our own caves. Someone has to guide you there. Perhaps your master forgot to take you," she said, her voice growing quieter, and Wen Ran could sense that there was something she wasn't saying. She was holding something back, her emotions hidden.
Wen Ran muttered under his breath, anger flashing across his face. "That old dog..." he gritted his teeth in fury. It was clear now that his master had done this on purpose—revenge for Wen Ran conning him. It would always leave a bitter taste in his mouth.
"Brother Wen..." Suddenly, Feng Yulan spoke again, her voice trembling slightly. Wen Ran turned to her, his fists clenched, his anger still simmering. "How about... you stay at my place tonight? Tomorrow, you can ask someone to lead you to your own place. I don't want you to sleep on the streets tonight."
Her face was flushed bright red, and her heart pounded wildly. She had gathered all her courage to say those words, the ones she had wanted to speak since she had first seen Wen Ran.
Wen Ran paused for a moment, pretending to think it over before giving a small, hidden smile. "Then, I will be in Sister Yulan's care," he said smoothly, bowing to her with a polite yet playful grace.
