Chapter 69 Senior Brother Luo
Chapter 69 Senior Brother Luo
The pair of crimson eyes gleamed like two bright gems, reflecting a fire—not from the outside, but one projected from within his soul. The hatred, which could not be easily quenched, was a seed being watered in this very moment. Every single hit he endured, every slash wound, every whip, for seven straight days without food or water—Wen Ran was being tortured in an attempt to break him. But for someone who had lived for thousands of years and endured unimaginable pain, this was nothing.
At least mentally, the pain was bearable with this body. He was still too weak, though, and Wen Ran didn't know if he would ever leave this place alive. His gaze shifted to the man with the bald head. They shared a silent understanding. Wen Ran knew that the man hadn't done this out of malice, but did that make him innocent?
"You're too persistent, junior brother. At this rate, you'll remain here forever," the man said with a sigh. His eyes were full of loneliness and pain. He considered himself a kind person at heart—or at least, that's how he saw himself.
Wen Ran, however, stared deeply into the man's soul.
"You're just a hypocrite. You know it wasn't my fault your artifact broke, yet you blame me for it. If that's the case, then I can say you deserve to suffer just because you caused me harm. This world is still full of idiots like you and your damn vice sect master." He scoffed. If Wen Ran could, he would wipe the entire sect out, but he wasn't an idiot.
The thick chains held him high in the air, all of the blood having long since rushed to his feet. The pain was immense. Being in this position for so long could kill anyone.
Veins began to pop out of the man's head. He felt helpless in this situation. His rage swelled; he was a once-in-a-lifetime talent, but this person was looking down on him. How could his pride not be affected by this? He swung the metal rod, aiming for Wen Ran's temples—one hit would be enough to kill him. But before he could strike, a loud male voice cut through the darkness of the chamber.
"Junior brother Mo, the life and death of this junior is not for you to decide."
The bald man froze, as if some mysterious energy had wrapped around him and stopped him at the very last second. He was ready to claim Wen Ran's life out of rage, but what shocked him even more was the owner of this voice. He knew this person well... After all, he was the number one ranked in the sect.
"Senior brother Luo, y-you... What are you doing here?" he panicked. He was still sealed in place, and soon his eyes met the youth, who appeared to be around twenty years old. He had long black hair and thin, sharp eyebrows, yet his appearance was scholarly—no one would guess he was secretly a powerful warrior.
"I came to collect junior brother Wen. After all, the sect master requested that he be immediately brought to him and accepted into the inner sect as compensation for his suffering. So that makes you and him fellow brothers. How about you put that rod away and apologize to him? After that, you and the other two who were involved are to immediately get on all fours and bark around the sect for the next seven days. If you don't do that, all of you will be kicked out and crippled."
Wen Ran's eyes met those of the newcomer. He looked different from the others, but this little show of fake kindness would not fool him. For now, however, he decided to play along. Anything was better than staying in this place, he thought with a heavy mind.
