Chapter 171 Questioning
Chapter 171 Questioning
The caravan had finally returned.
The gate burst open amidst panicked shouts.
Of the five trucks that had departed, only four returned, each looking as though soaked in plasma, emanating a nauseating stench of blood.
The survivors living here quickly noticed something amiss and began whispering amongst themselves.
"Did I see it wrong?"
"Doesn't it seem like there's a truck missing?"
The person beside him nudged him with an elbow and only after the caravan people had passed did he continue:
"It's not just that, didn't you notice that a lot of people are missing on their return?"
"It seems some of the Peng family brothers didn't come back either."
Upon hearing this, the nearby people stretched their necks and scanned the figures walking towards the building.
It wasn't long before someone exclaimed in surprise, "It does seem so, both the second and third masters are—"
But then, suddenly, that voice stopped.
The man's head drooped, sweat dripping down like rain until the person in front of him snorted heavily and turned to leave, allowing him to tentatively lift his head with a relieved sigh.
Peng Liu had just walked past him.
And he seemed to be in a rather bad mood.
Seeing this, the people around dared not speak recklessly, yet each felt a heaviness in their chest as if something was oppressing it.
The somber atmosphere wasn't limited to the people but extended to the black clouds on the horizon.
The sound of pouring rain suddenly started, driving everyone in the courtyard into the shelters, washing away the bloodied footprints on the ground, making everything clean once more.@@@@
Big Beard was lost in thought as he stared out the window.
The rain tapping on the windowsill let out a series of crisp sounds, the moist air seeping through the cracks, filling the room with an indescribable chill.
"Big Beard, judging by their looks, it seems they've suffered a defeat,"
"I guess soon we'll have to—" Find exclusive stories on My Virtual Library Empire
Hou Shubin hadn't finished speaking when someone began knocking on the door.
But before the two could respond, the door was already pushed open with a thud from the outside.
With a swoosh, two zombies clad in metallic armor like tin cans were already blocking the way, one of them even struggling to spit out a word from its mouth.
"Who?"
After Zhang Ye completed the 'Monopolize the City Center' system task, the intelligence level of these zombie employees improved once again.
Now they could not only execute more complex commands but could also distinguish between friend and foe.
But exactly how they distinguished this was unknown.
The visitor was none other than Peng Liu.
After all, who could have predicted that Pen Yue's younger brother would be shot dead as soon as he got out of the car?
And the third brother was still like a stunned fool.
Seeing Peng Si cursing and on the verge of losing control, Big Beard finally suppressed a hint of panic within himself and asked in a deep voice:
"Big Brother Peng, what do you mean by this?"
He didn't directly address the Peng Si in front of him but instead looked at Peng Yue behind him, who also had a grief-stricken expression.
That was the person who would decide their fate.
Peng Yue at that moment seemed like he had become a different person.
Sitting there, he stared intently at the two men at the door, and after a long while, he finally forced out a few words from his throat:
"Tell me."
"Why does that Chen have your gear?"
How could he have it?
It was deliberately sold by those above, of course!
Upon hearing this, Hou Shubin subconsciously thought these words but quickly retracted his thoughts upon seeing the looks of those around him, which seemed ready to tear the two of them to shreds at any moment.
He nervously eyed Big Beard in front of him.
This guy wouldn't just spill the beans, would he?
"Big Brother Peng."
"I think you may have misunderstood something."
Finally, Big Beard spoke, his voice still so steady and powerful, as if there weren't a dark gun barrel to his forehead.
He locked his firm gaze on Peng Yue, continuing to say:
"And to be honest, I still don't know who the person you're talking about is."
No sooner had he finished speaking than a short man beside Peng Yue retorted coldly:
"Lying through your teeth!"
"Peng Liu saw with his own eyes that they used your guns and armor, and you still dare to say you don't recognize that Chen?"
Peng Liu was watching them coldly from a few steps away.
The initial thoughts had by now vanished without a trace.
He had seen with his own eyes his second brother being shot dead, and then those enemies clad in iron armor slaughtering their brothers, making them scurry like rats.
The company he had once looked forward to was now a hated enemy, with whom he shared an irreconcilable vendetta.
No matter what Big Beard said, it seemed to him mere sophistry.
All just excuses to deceive them.
But just when he thought the other side would find some reason to defend themselves in order to leave alive, Big Beard said such a thing.
