Chapter 155

Chapter 155

The Black-haired Boy

I could only stand in shock. . The world was pure white, and little by little the white cleared. I immediately understood from the atmosphere that the scenery before me was completely different from what I’d just seen a moment ago.

I had been teleported... I’d been living in this world for 20 years, I’d developed a tolerance to magic, so I understood immediately... But that doesn’t mean I’m not confused.

Wh-Where is this...!?

I was in the center of a fairly large room, surrounded by many people. I could tell at a glance that the paintings, curtains, and carpets in the room were expensive, and those who were looking down at me, judging from their clothing, seemed to be of high status.

The most shocking thing was, everyone was in human form. —I had a bad feeling. But I didn’t want to think about it.

“H-Hey... What the hell... Where are we?!”

Startled by that voice, I turned towards it. I realized that I wasn’t the only one who didn’t understand what was going on. There were two others sitting here, seemingly anxious, just like me. Both of them looked like they were minors.

One had long, reddish brown hair tied simply, he was frozen, not even moving. He looked about twelve in human years. And the other was the one who had just spoken, a black-haired boy. He looked about fourteen... a delicate age, caught between boyhood and young adulthood. Appearances can be deceiving, so it’s hard to say for sure.

But that wasn’t important right now. I couldn’t take my eyes off the black-haired boy.

“I apologize for suddenly summoning you here. We mean you no harm. Could you listen to what we have to say?”

The man who addressed us, a man who seemed to have an even higher status than the others, spoke as I stood there in shock.

“Eh, ah, you... Minister Nott...?”

“Oh my, you know me. Are you a citizen of this country?”

“...Maybe.”

The black-haired boy I can’t take my eyes off of seems to know these people. I have no idea what’s going on, but I’ll just quietly gather information. I’m a member of Ortus, after all. I need to stay calm and composed, regardless of the situation. ...Though my heart was beating loudly, and my body was trembling.

“First, I’ll explain, since I’m sure you’re confused. The reason you’re here now is...”

The man, who seemed to be called “Minister Nott,” started talking, but the black-haired boy cut him off.

“I-I know! You royals are gathering those with high magic power, aren’t you!?”

The boy clenched his fists tightly. The look in his eyes, filled with resentment, scared me.

From anger, or fear, his body was trembling.

“You gather these rare individuals...! And then you use them up! Sell them off, don’t you?!”

“Spatial Magic, Teleportation!”

The boy shouted, and I once again squeezed my eyes shut against the blinding light. I could hear those surrounding us shouting, but I couldn’t understand what they were saying.

And we were swallowed by that white world.

And then, when the light subsided, I felt a floating sensation. ...Floating sensation!?

“Eek...!”

We were probably just a meter above ground, but if you’re suddenly thrown into the air, there’s no way you can brace yourself for impact. It’s not like I’m an Ortus member or anything! I landed on my butt with a thud.

“Owww!”

“Shhh! Be quiet! Don’t shout!”

The black-haired boy hurriedly whispered angrily and covered my mouth with his hand.

“I can’t teleport too far. And I have two others with me... so they might find us. You can be quiet, right?”

“Mmmph!”

I’m an obedient little girl. I nodded repeatedly and he finally let go. Phew.

“Sorry, did that hurt? I have a ton of magic power, but I’m still not very good at using it. The landing wasn’t smooth. Are you okay?”

“Y-Yeah, I’m fine...”

The reddish brown haired boy responded hesitantly, when the boy asked this quietly.

“Um, where awe we...? Why did this happen...? Do you know anything?”

I unconsciously asked this. From our previous conversation, the boy seemed to know a little about the situation. He looked at me a little surprised, then smiled apologetically as he answered.

“That’s right. You must be confused. How about you? Are you also confused?”

The other boy hesitantly nodded. I’m glad, it’s not just me who doesn’t understand anything.

“I don’t really know the details. But I’ll tell you what I do know. But let’s get out of here first. I don’t know when they’ll come after us.”

He was right. We had to get to a safe place. We all nodded and stood up, ready to relocate.
