The Bigshot's Superstar Wife

Chapter 30: The Start of Trouble

Chapter 30: The Start of Trouble

When Athena regained consciousness, the first thing she felt was the warmth of strong arms cradling her. Haven’t I...

Her head rested against a broad chest, and the rhythmic sound of footsteps echoed faintly in her ears.

Blinking slowly, she lifted her gaze and realized she was in Mors’ arms as he carried her out of the cave. He must have found me gone for too long.

The soft glow of two camera bots hovering nearby lit their path, capturing every detail. Won’t the audience find this...

Beyond the bots, the live stream audience watched with bated breath, their chat feeds exploding with excitement and speculation.

"You can put me down," Athena whispered, her voice still groggy but laced with embarrassment. My vest would be blown. He is also injured!

Mors didn’t even glance at her, his stride steady and confident. "It’s not necessary. You weigh like a feather," he replied casually.

Athena frowned slightly, shifting in his hold. "But carrying me like this might reopen the wound on your back."

"It’s already healed," Mors said simply, his tone leaving no room for doubt.

"Healed completely?" Athena’s disbelief was evident, her brows furrowing as she tried to process his words. He must be kidding.

"No scars left," he added, his voice calm but firm.

Athena’s mind raced. That wasn’t possible, unless...

She vividly remembered the deep, raw wound across his back, an injury that should have taken weeks to heal even with advanced medical treatments.

Her disbelief turned into suspicion as fragments of memory resurfaced. Even if the interstellar people have enhanced abilities and genetics, healing so fast is a rare case.

The image of Mors in the dead of night, speaking with the mysterious guards who knelt before him, flashed through her mind.

It must have been them. They must have given him some kind of miracle cure, she thought, her suspicion deepening. But she kept her expression neutral, her face betraying nothing.

As Mors continued to carry her, the wilderness around them unfolded into a vibrant tapestry of towering trees and rustling foliage.

The cool breeze carried the faint scent of damp earth and blooming flowers. My senses have changed, as well as my strength. I feel different...

Despite the lingering tension in her mind, Athena couldn’t help but feel a small sense of calm in the embrace of nature.

Yet, the man carrying her was far from ordinary, and she couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that his secrets ran deeper than she initially thought.

When Mors gently set Athena down near the makeshift table, her gaze immediately fell on the spread before her.

"Do you hear that?"

"Yeah..." The heavy rain began to pour without warning, drumming loudly against the roof of their hut.

The wind howled, bending the surrounding trees, and the air turned cold and damp in an instant. Athena’s eyes darted toward the small window, her expression tense.

"Mors, the rain is stronger than I expected," she murmured, worry lacing her voice.

Mors placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, his gaze calm. "Don’t worry," he said in a low, steady tone. "The hut is sturdy, and we’re safe here. Nothing bad will happen."

Athena tried to relax, nodding at his reassurance, but her instincts refused to settle. A beast must be going berserk. Should I check it out later?

Just as she began to think she might be overreacting, a piercing, guttural scream echoed through the storm. It was the sound of a beast, wild, enraged, and too close for comfort.

Athena’s blood ran cold. "What was that?" she whispered, her voice barely audible over the storm. Mors stood, his demeanor instantly shifting into something sharper and more alert.

His eyes narrowed as he gazed toward the door, but the pitch-black night and heavy rain made it impossible to see anything outside.

The viewers, watching through the lens of the live stream bots, were thrown into chaos.

[Did you hear that scream? What kind of creature makes that noise?]

[Oh no, something’s out there. This is bad.]

[Athena looks terrified. Someone protect her!]

[Major, you better not let anything happen to her, or I swear...]

[What if it’s some kind of alien predator? This is the Andromeda Galaxy, after all.]

[That scream gave me chills! It sounded like it came from right outside their hut.]

[I can’t believe they’re live streaming this! It’s like a horror movie.]

[Athena’s instincts are spot on. I’d be worried too.]

[Do you think the hut can withstand a beast attack?]

[Can someone check on the major general’s weapons? Are they ready for this?]

[I need Mors to pull off some superhero moves right now!]
