Chapter 200 200: Mission Accomplished
Chapter 200 200: Mission Accomplished
Three Kirigakure shinobi burst out of the bushes, fleeing in three different directions.
They knew full well they were no match.
They had seen the battle just now.
That Hiruko guy? Mediocre.
But Hyuga Arin?
Absolutely not someone they could handle.
They had heard the name Flame Demon Hyuga Arin before—a shinobi with a title earned on the battlefield.
And they?
They didn't even deserve names on the battlefield.
"One jonin, two chunin."
A trace of disdain appeared on Arin's face as he spread his hands outward.
At some point, he had started looking down on a thousand experience points.
Twin flame spears rapidly condensed in his palms.
He hurled them toward the two chunin.
"Fire Release: Extreme Flame Spear — Duet!"
His body swelled again, drawing another sidelong glance from Hiruko. He still couldn't figure out what technique caused that strange physical expansion.
The two flame spears vanished instantly, leaving afterimages behind.
Moments later—
"Boom!"
"Boom!"
In the distance, two pillars of black-blue fire shot into the sky.
1687 / 1598
Arin didn't pause.
He crouched slightly in the direction the jonin had fled. Cracks spread beneath his feet.
He assumed a sprinter's stance, then slammed both palms against the ground.
Whoosh.
He disappeared from Hiruko's sight.
"How is he moving like that?!" Hiruko's mind was full of question marks.
From a researcher's perspective, ignoring the fact that he was a shinobi—Hyuga Arin was a walking treasure trove of experimental value.
Unaware that he had already become research material in Hiruko's mind, Arin appeared instantly above the fleeing jonin.
"Yo."
He kindly announced his arrival.
The Kirigakure jonin turned in terror—
Only to see Arin descending with both hands gripping his blade.
And he himself was midair.
Slash.
[EXP: 13548]
Arin landed lightly.
The flames burning across his body evaporated the blood instantly.
"Let's see what dropped."
There was a hint of anticipation in his voice.
Kirigakure dropped pirate-themed items.
And Devil Fruits were powerful.
Strong in early to mid-game.
Some Mythical Zoans could even scale into late game.
Most importantly—
Devil Fruits had no class restriction.
[Devil Fruit Fragment (1)]
"As expected."
He stored the fragment away.
Devil Fruits were high-tier items in the game; they couldn't be farmed easily.
10 fragments = Zoan
20 fragments = Paramecia
30 fragments = Logia
50 fragments = Mythical Zoan
And the drop rate wasn't high. Only jonin had a decent chance.
"What suits me best is Mythical Zoan."
Arin stroked his chin.
"So I need fifty fragments."
Which meant killing at least fifty Kirigakure jonin.
Likely more, since drop rates weren't guaranteed.
Looks like he'd need to find a way to farm Kirigakure someday.
Each of the Five Great Villages had things he wanted:
Iwagakure — Dragon Slayer Magic
Kumogakure — Sun Breathing (advanced version grants Transparent World)
Kirigakure — Devil Fruits
Sunagakure — Equipment
"Too bad the war's ending."
Arin sighed.
Looks like he'd have to wait for the next war to collect everything.
Hiruko arrived shortly after, staring at the Kirigakure jonin split cleanly in half. His lips twitched.
This had taken mere moments.
Was Arin's strength a bit too ridiculous?
…
"You've done well."
Danzo looked pleased as he examined the Sharingan in his hand.
He handed them to a Root operative.
Then he turned to Hiruko.
"I have an important research project for you. Go. Someone will brief you."
"Yes."
Hiruko vanished with Body Flicker.
Only then did Danzo look at Arin.
"Are you adapting well to life in Root?"
"Super well."
Arin had gained quite a lot this time.
Only four more Sharingan to go.
Danzo's lips twitched.
He certainly seemed adapted.
More adapted than most Root members.
Hyuga Arin truly belonged to the darkness.
"Your primary duties will be eliminating traitors, breaking seals, and assassination missions."
"And I'm assigning you an important task."
Danzo's expression grew solemn.
"I need you to persuade Orochimaru to join Root."
So direct recruitment failed.
Now he was taking a curved approach.
Danzo clearly hadn't given up on Orochimaru.
He wanted to turn upright Uncle Snake into future villain Snake Lady.
"Because of this, I'll grant you special permission to retain your shinobi identity. When Root needs you, you'll act."
Normally, joining Root required abandoning one's public identity.
But Arin's case was different.
His techniques were too distinctive.
Once those black-blue flames appeared, everyone knew it was him.
If he fully joined Root and kept operating, Root's involvement would become obvious.
So Danzo had placed him in a half-member state.
"I can't even see Orochimaru-sensei right now."
Arin shrugged.
The Sannin were still on the frontlines.
"There's no rush."
Danzo wasn't worried.
For now, he had Hiruko as a substitute experimenter.
"I'll try."
Arin couldn't guarantee anything.
Without Nawaki's death, Orochimaru hadn't undergone that psychological shift yet.
Convincing upright Orochimaru wouldn't be easy.
"You will complete this task."
Danzo's voice hardened.
"If you succeed, I will grant you partial command authority within Root."
"Really?"
Arin's eyes lit up.
Danzo could see the ambition in his gaze.
Too obvious.
Too young.
Root would always be his Root.
Even if he granted authority, he could take it back at any time.
What Danzo didn't realize—
From the first day he joined, this "new recruit" was already planning to overthrow the boss and take his place.
Who would ever expect that?
"Mission accepted."
Arin answered firmly.
If Orochimaru refused—
Then he'd beat him until he agreed.
That still counted as joining Root, didn't it?
