MY SUGAR MUMMY IS A BEAUTIFUL VAMPIRE

Chapter 91: Ultimate choice

Chapter 91: Ultimate choice

"You see, my dear Rose, I'm part of a grand plan to elevate reality to a higher state. It's about transcending this mundane existence and reaching a new cosmic level. But to do that, we need to remove those who cling to their narrow-minded views.

His gaze tracked back over one shoulder, lips quirking with almost paternal indulgence. "All that is required is for the counterweights of cosmic ignorance - those souls too dimly lit to see beyond their myopic self-interest, souls of these wretched mortals leading a hopeless existence doomed for extinction.

Souls like...your SECRETARY- to finally be excised from the heavenly equation.Only then can the maddening stasis and impotent repetitions of these lesser spheres finally be eradicated."

Rose felt the rising currents of her aggression momentarily waver at Damien's maddeningly matter-of-fact pronouncements. There had been ample signs over the centuries of his mounting eccentricities, of course. But never before had he seemed so utterly untethered from the foundational precepts of rationality that underpinned existence itself.

Once again, he spoke in tones layered with grandiose self-assuredness - a stark counterpoint to Rose's own seething fury. ""It was always meant to be, my dear. I am destined to reshape reality itself, to become the architect of a new, enlightened age."

Rose spat out another vehement bark of derisive laughter, a sound utterly devoid of any mirth or levity. "Is that what you truly believe, Damien? That you are some divinely anointed herald destined to slough off the fetters of what you so arrogantly term 'lesser spheres' in quixotic pursuit of some nonsensical transcendental rapture?"

He made no response, simply watching her impassively with those same dolorous, vaguely bemused eyes. Rose pressed in further, relishing the fleeting rill of discomfort that flickered across his features as her talon bit deeper..

"Tell me then, oh luminous one - was it all part of your grand design to catalyze Blake's downfall as well? To have him persecuted and ultimately martyred by the very same self-proclaimed celestial regents you now seek to elevate yourself amongst?"

Damien swallowed hard, Adam's apple bobbing against the obsidian talons scoring his flesh. When he spoke again, the cultured baritone that emerged was strained, almost reedy with discomfort.

"The sacrifices of the unilluminated are simply the necessary cost of transfiguration, Rose. Just as the remnants of your mortality will ultimately need to be shed before we can truly experience the apotheosis of sacred—"

"ENOUGH!" Rose's roar cracked across the foyer in thunderous defiance, ablative fury scalding down the very pathways of her synapses until her entire being felt subsumed in a blinding, cleansing conflagration.

"No more of your deluded ravings or unhinged metaphysical pretensions. I wanted the truth from you, Damien - and now that I have it, the time for reckoning has finally come due!"

One taloned hand remained leveled in unmistakable accusation while the other lashed out with blinding, sidereal swiftness to seize Damien's lapels in an unbreakable grip.

"Your price, my love...is the unconditional and eternal surrender of your immortal soul. Only by shedding every last vestige of free will and binding your essence forevermore to mine as an exalted consort will I be satisfied."

He paused for a beat, letting the words detonate their full malignant gravity against the dizzying disbelief sweeping through Rose's synapses.

"Or, to put it in more corporeal terms - you must sacrifice every shred of your identity and autonomy, becoming the pliant and adoring extension of my own being until the final entropic death cry unravels this whole benighted cosmos."

Rose felt her jaw go slack, uncomprehending, as every atom of her being rebelled against the unconscionable bargain now being demanded. To become nothing more than a leashed familiar, an obedient accessory to Damien's own celestially augmented splendor in exchange for seeing the only justice her truest love had ever deserved?

Even as her soulfire shuddered in unmistakable repulsion, the full magnitude of just how implacable Damien's terms truly were began to take visceral shape. This was no trifling ultimatum or fleeting whim - it was the very keening outstretched of existential obliteration itself, promising the complete and total subsumption of everything Rose had ever held sacrosanct.

And even still, even with the prospect of her every autonomous impulse withering away into rote service and fealty to...whatever unimaginable cosmic ambitions blazed within Damien's psyche, she could feel her resolve teetering on the precipice.

Could feel the maddeningly seductive allure of finally balancing the scales, of righting that longstanding egregious injustice pulling her down into depthless oblivion.

But at what cost? Where was the line at which the sacrifices exacted for achieving a just equilibrium finally overshadowed the very premise of integrity itself?

Rose felt suddenly lightheaded, nerves afire with reciprocal surges of searing hesitation and preternatural resolve. Her gaze flickered between Damien's dispassionate regard and some distant vista only she could perceive, where currents of celestial travesty and immaculate reckoning folded in upon themselves in a maddeningly paradoxical progression of cause-effect.

She opened her mouth to deliver the words of capitulation that seemed to hang in the air between them like a scintillant augur of futures both cherished and dreaded. The syllables strained against the arched confines of her gritted fangs, chromatic detonations on the verge of being loosed - vectors of seismic finality poised to detonate their paradigm-rending impacts.

Except in that final sundered instant before Rose could unleash her reply, Damien's expression shifted with the undulating fluidity of a conjurer's trick. His features smoothed from implacable declaration into something far more inscrutable - a patina of arrogant bemusement glossing over his prior outward zeal.

And when he finally did speak, only a single oblique phrase effused past the convex symmetry of his knowing smirk.

"Well, my love? The choice awaits only your determination..."
