Chapter 79 Origin of the Apostles
Chapter 79 Origin of the Apostles
The whole room was plunged into chaos as the revelation of their fake success reached their minds. A man among them immediately fell to his knees and began to sulk.
Xander's dad dismissed everyone after a while except Xander as he wanted to have a word with his son.
"Do you think that we'll be able to stop them in time?"
The question stunned Xander for a while, and he thought deeply about it. After thirty seconds, he finally spoke up.
"I... I honestly don't know," Xander said in a sad tone. "But if you don't mind, can you tell me what exactly the ghouls are and how this is all related?"
Ciel sat up and looked at his son with raised brows but didn't say anything and just sighed.
"You can ask the God from whom you inherited your arcana, as I wouldn't do a good job at explaining it," Ciel said as he closed his eyes.
Xander closed his eyes and headed into his subconsciousness. He appeared in front of the familiar red sun, which illuminated the surroundings.
"You seek the origin."
Hearing a familiar voice from behind him, Xander turned around to see Asura looking at him. As always, the god still had a nonchalant look on his face.
"Yes. I want to know how it all started."
Asura braced himself by taking a deep breath as he waved his hand, and the space distorted, and they both appeared in an unfamiliar place.
"Back when the Earth was filled with gods and powerful beasts, everywhere was peaceful and exciting."
The scene changed from people flying in the sky, and people sleeping. Some of these people were so beautiful that Xander couldn't help but be amazed at how the gods were all ethereal-like.
"However, in the presence of light, there is also darkness. The one who created the rest of the gods also created a counter for their great power: Ghouls."
The view then changed again, and they were now in Earth above many skyscrapers.
"Over hundreds of years, we have stopped the worshippers, but we always miss a few which will grow."
"The apostles are the ones who can save their home. We the gods can't interfere in this case." Find your next adventure on empire
Asura had a tranquil expression as he remembered the Ragnarok in Heaven. Humans can't possibly survive it if gods couldn't!
"I guess we just have to keep looking for them," Xander said and vanished from his subconscious, making Asura sigh tiredly.
"A thank you would be nice, but whatever."
...
Xander opened his eyes to see himself alone inside his dad's office.
He exited the under-base to go to his favorite place to relax and think, which was the park.
Upon getting there, there were fewer people there than normal, but he didn't mind and just walked over to the tree in the distance and lay down while gazing at the sky in silence, pondering over everything he learned today.
"You seem lost, child."
Xander turned to see a slightly aged man dressed in white standing while looking at the sky with a smile. The man had neat, long black hair, which was straight and looked soft to touch.
"I am. I really need to find someone, but I don't know where to start. Everything I do just backfires... I'm confused," Xander stood up.
"You know I know a great coffee shop not far from here that makes some nice calming tea. I'm in need of some, and I'm about to head there myself," the man said.
Curious to see whether tea can really calm a person, Xander agreed, "I hope it really calms the mind."
