xander felt sore all over. his whole body ached as he tried to move a bit. he opened his eyes to see hannah looking at his face, a complex expression of fear and worry was etched on her face.
"di... did we make it out?" xander asked in a low tone as his throat felt dry and his stomach hurts so much.
hannah teared up as she saw that xander was alive. she thought that he wasn't going to wake up anytime soon and that he may probably not even wake up at all.
seeing that he was alive she just shook her head and smiled.
xander furrowed his brows as one of the tears nearly entered his eyes. but then his eyes shined as he realised what she meant.
'does she mean we didn't get out?' xander thought as he sat up with furrowed brows, not wanting what he thought to be true.
to his horror, they were still in the cave but it was quiet now and there were four alters like the ones xander saw before.
"i tried to leave but there was a barrier and i couldn't pass it," hannah stood up and helped xander up.
he wrapped an arm around hannah's slender neck as she helped him stand. he observed the alter and all of them had the same red aura from before.
xander looked at hannah and saw that the pretty girl still had a sad look on her face.
"it's okay hannah. the manticore's dead." xander said, trying to make her not feel guilty for anything.
"how can i calm down? we... we had a plan... an... and i just fainted out of fear. you had to give me your armour and now you're hurt..."
xander's expression went from worried to tired.
"it's not your fault."
"huh?" hannah looked at him, her eyes welled up with tears.
xander showed her the back of his left hand where there was a black ring. the ring of knights, one of xander's favorite items in this world.
"this ring makes me immune to any magic attacks so the psychic attack of the manticore didn't affect me." xander explained with a shrug.
"xander look at this." hannah said as she stood up and walked towards a particular alter.
xander for confused and followed her.
"look. the writings on this one is slightly different than the rest." hannah said as she pointed to the markings on the alter.
xander looked at the markings and he was confused at first but then his eyes widened in sudden realization and he touched the alter.

xander didn't pay attention to the notification and closed his eyes to feel the energy very well.
it was similar to primordial energy but it was slightly different. there was a black thread that connected his finger... or rather the ring on it, to the alter.
xander then went to the other alters to check the same thing and when he didn't see the thread. he walked back to the first one with a sense of certainty.
"you sure about this?" hannah's said in a shaky voice.
"only one way to find out."
hannah swallowed her saliva as she heard xander's words.
xander put all his faith in luck as he touched the first alter once more.
