I Inherited Trillions, Now What?

Chapter 32 Court X

Chapter 32 Court X

In January of 2022, the sun rose over the pristine, gated neighborhood of Cherry Hills Village, one of the most affluent areas in the United States. The homes here were sprawling and opulent, each surrounded by manicured lawns and security systems that whispered of wealth and exclusivity.

Elisabeth Usher, a woman of elegance and composure, was enjoying a quiet morning in her marble-floored kitchen when the doorbell rang. She glanced at the clock, puzzled. The security hadn't informed her of any visitors. Trusting the safeguards in place, she walked to the door, her silk robe trailing behind her. Checking the security camera, she froze in shock.@@@@

Standing at her doorstep was none other than Cassius Blackwell, her ex-husband. His face was pale, his usually confident demeanor replaced by something frantic. Without hesitation, she unlocked the door and pulled it open.

"Cassius," she exclaimed, her voice a mix of surprise and concern. "What are you doing here? Is everything okay?"

Cassius stepped inside, his movements brisk and jittery. His black eyes, mirrors of intensity, darted around the room as if searching for unseen threats. "I need to talk to you," he said, his voice uncharacteristically shaky.

Elisabeth closed the door, leading him to the living room. "What's going on? You look... distraught."

Cassius ran a hand through his hair, pacing the length of the room. "It's Alexander," he blurted out.

"Alexander?" Elisabeth's heart skipped. "Is he alright? What's happened?"

Cassius stopped, turning to her with a wild glint in his eyes. "He's brilliant, Elisabeth. Absolutely brilliant. I always knew he was smart, but this... this is something else. He just shared a plan with me, a vision so ambitious and flawless that if he pulls it off, it will cement our family name in history forever."

Elisabeth crossed her arms, her voice dropping to a cold whisper. "I don't agree with this. And if you go through with it, don't expect me to defend your decision when the time comes."

The room fell into a heavy silence, the once-married pair staring each other down, years of history and unresolved tension crackling between them.

The scene shifted back to the courtroom, the sterile lighting casting a stark glow over the proceedings. Harvey Lancaster stood at the defense table, his expression composed but determined.

"Miss Usher," he began, addressing the woman seated a few feet away, "I would like to ask you a series of questions."

Before Elisabeth could respond, Gregory Baldwin shot to his feet. "Objection, your Honor. This witness wasn't disclosed prior to today."

Harvey turned to the judge, his tone calm but firm. "Your Honor, this testimony is crucial. The circumstances required us to call this witness last minute."

Judge Patterson raised an eyebrow, clearly displeased with the surprise. "Mr. Lancaster, you're treading on thin ice."

Harvey inclined his head respectfully. "Understood, your Honor. But I assure you, this will clarify the heart of the matter."

The judge sighed, gesturing for him to proceed. "Very well. But I'll be keeping a close watch."

As Harvey returned his attention to Elisabeth
