Chapter 96 The Half-Year Challenge

Chapter 96 The Half-Year Challenge

Wen Ran's fist slammed into Zhang Dawei, sending the latter stumbling back, clutching his belly in pain. He couldn't believe it—he, a seasoned warrior, was actually forced to take a few steps back by a junior, and worse yet, injured in the process.

"You little shit!" Zhang Dawei roared, his voice shaking with fury. His body swelled, muscles bulging with the sudden release of power. He had barely used 10% of his strength in the last attack, and the fact that Wen Ran had even moved at all infuriated him. The blow to his pride stung far more than the physical pain, and it set his rage ablaze.

Wen Ran, feeling the difference in power between them more keenly now, quickly realized that staying and fighting was suicide. Well, if you can't beat them... Run! he thought, his instincts kicking in. Without a second's hesitation, he turned and fled, moving as fast as his legs could carry him. Zhang Dawei was hot on his heels, closing the gap with each passing second. Despite Wen Ran's superior experience, the difference in their cultivation levels made victory nearly impossible. His only hope now was Luo Feng—but where the hell was that idiot?

Damn it! Wen Ran cursed inwardly, frustration flooding his mind. If I become a ghost, I swear I'll haunt that so-called sworn brother of mine every single night and day until he can't sleep again!

Just as Wen Ran's heart sank in defeat, a sudden flash of purple light streaked through the air, and a spectral sword shot toward Zhang Dawei. The blade cut through the air with a deadly hum, forcing Zhang Dawei to stagger back, a deep gash appearing on his shoulder. The wound was nasty, blood oozing from it in thick streams—something that would take time to heal, much to Zhang Dawei's fury.

Wen Ran couldn't help but let out a relieved breath, his tension easing for the moment. He glanced over his shoulder and saw a man casually flying on a sword, his posture relaxed but his face twisted with fury.

"Hold it, you monkey," Wen Ran cut in, his voice calm yet loaded with a challenge. The words caught Luo Feng by surprise, and he burst into laughter, unable to contain his amusement. The absurdity of the situation—the two towering figures ready to clash—was interrupted by Wen Ran's boldness. "You want to fight me?" Wen Ran continued, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "How about we make it a bit more... entertaining?"

The sudden proposition caused both Luo Feng and Zhang Dawei to pause and exchange odd looks, their confusion momentarily calming the tension.

"Half a year from now, we will fight," Wen Ran declared, his tone full of an undeniable challenge. "If I lose, I will accept any fate you choose. Before that, I'll walk around the sect naked and kowtow before you and your brothers." He paused, letting the gravity of the humiliation settle in. "But if I win... heh..." His eyes gleamed with mischief. "You will have to do the same, with your joke of a brothers. Do you dare, or will you be a coward with a monkey brain?"

The provocations hit hard. Luo Feng was stunned into silence, not sure whether to laugh or cry at Wen Ran's audacity. The junior's boldness was unparalleled. Meanwhile, Zhang Dawei stared at Wen Ran as though he were a fool, a clown daring to mock him. But beneath that sneer, Wen Ran's words dug into his pride.

Testing his resolve was something Zhang Dawei couldn't tolerate. He had never been afraid of anything, and the thought of someone challenging his honor only made his rage flare hotter.

"Of course I dare," Zhang Dawei spat, his voice dripping with contempt. "Why wouldn't I? It'll be glorious to see you humiliate yourself in front of everyone." He took a step closer, his voice low and filled with venom. "And don't even think about running. I'll hunt you down myself, and even Luo Feng won't be able to shield you. Hahaha! I'm looking forward to this. You better grow stronger, or it'll be too boring for me."

His eyes gleamed with murderous intent as he locked onto Wen Ran, unable to wait for the moment when he would tear him apart. A half-year wasn't too long to wait, not for someone as confident in his strength as Zhang Dawei. After all, he had just awakened the legacy of the Ape Immortal, a power that was only beginning to course through him.
