Chapter 517 Shattered Gates; Surprise

The total firepower and strength output of the guardians were barely able to stop the continuous flood of void in the camp through the void gate. The rise of the tide was almost slowed down to a halt, but not entirely.

Obviously, the swarm of void creatures was making things worse. There seems to be no end to them, and they are extremely aggressive this time.

Cedric, despite being kept in a secured location, refused to stay idle. Even though he couldn't actively join his fellow guardians in defending or diving into the tide, at the very least, he could lighten the burden for them somehow or save some of them in the nick of time.

His swords turned into streaks of light that easily passed through the curtain of the hard-light barriers that's preventing the tide from decimating the buildings. They shot out like dark golden comets, piercing through void creatures easily like they're made of paper.

The flying swords resembled needles compared to the immensity of the horde. But their piercing power is something that nobody could ignore or deny. With Cedric's skills at manipulating them, his kills easily climbed up to hundreds in mere minutes after launching them.

This wasn't surprising to Cedric. After all, he's way stronger now. He could easily conjure up hundreds of swords and control each one accurately like they were his fingers.

But what truly surprised him is that the summoned swords, which were made out of materials taken from the Void, were exponentially becoming stronger the longer they were exposed to the tide.@@@@

He could feel this through his connection with them. This is an unexpected delight, because the longer this war went on, the stronger his weapons became.

Cedric realized that, because of his intrinsic connection with the sword case and the changes in his life evolution path, his weapon inherited some of his abilities too.

They are now capable of absorbing and refining raw void energy by themselves and making it a source of their growth.

This wasn't included in the book that the Wise Dragon Chancellor gave to him. It's a discovery he made on his own.

So of course, he tested if he could actively facilitate this process and make it more streamlined, efficient, and, more importantly, faster. And again, to his surprise, he could.

The process was no different from him refining the void himself. He just has to apply the same rules to his swords, and then he'd have way more durable and sharper swords flying around.

It definitely sounds way easier than it is. But the complexity lies in how many swords he wanted to upgrade. Obviously, he had to refine every single sword, and that requires a staggering amount of focus and skill from others. Cedric was blessed with numerous thought chambers that could alleviate the burden, so it became way easier for him.

Actually, he could get away with this. People barely pay attention to other things that have nothing to do with killing void creatures. However, it's better to be safe than sorry.

And so, Cedric eventually carved out the runes.

Unexpectedly, and this might be a unique interaction given that he carved the rune on a hard light of all things, the rune shone a little too brightly that he's sure some people noticed it. But the radiance diffused shortly after, and the effect started applying.

Cedric began paying attention. And as expected, it's working.

'Hmm, it's more voracious than my swords, it seems,' he judged as he observed the absorption of the runes.

Each rune easily gobbled up gallons of void energy just by existing. The good part is that the runes strengthened the barrier as a whole. Previously, it shook a lot and frightened many people because it might collapse at some point, but after the rune was applied, it stopped. It became sturdier and more compact.

Additionally, since it's using a more accessible energy source, the burden on the coffers of the guardians will inevitably lighten. Because of this, instead of consuming resources that the guardians prepared and accumulated after a lot of time just for scenarios like this, it will instead use raw void energy as a priority, saving up those precious resources and extending the longevity of the barriers.

And because of this additional drain on the void tide, from a halt, it began to decrease exponentially as time went on. Those who were monitoring tide levels were surprised by this because, to them, it doesn't make sense.

They knew that the gates hadn't stopped discharging void energy to the camp, and through common sense, it should be obvious that the tide continues to rise instead of decrease. So how can they not be surprised upon learning this?

None of them would be getting answers right now, though. They certainly wouldn't expect that it's Cedric who had done this.

But was Cedric satisfied with this? Hell, no!

To him, this could be so much more. The rate of conversion was off to him; it wastes a lot of energy and potential gains, so much so that it physically pains him. He could earn so much from this, and it could potentially save so many lives!

Unfortunately, he'd have to just eat this loss right now and accept that this was the best outcome they could have right now. He would need to refine this process more once he has time.

He had to focus on other matters right now anyway.
