Chapter 505 Invasion; Breakthrough Accident

The bad news is that pretty much all Border Patrol Guardian Camps were completely submerged in a 10-foot-deep pool of pure Void.

The good news is this invasion was nearly over. It seems that the void has stopped sending its army using the holes in the Scarlet Division Wall. With the killing efficiency of the army, the remaining void creatures should be eradicated within the next hour.

Of course, the situation of the camps was horrible. This invasion will cost them an arm and a leg after the cleanup. This, and the number of casualties, will certainly make the camp weaker than before. It would take years to replenish the resources this incident caused, even longer for their numbers to return from what it was previously.

The loss of life is the heaviest, not just because the dead were good people but also because all camps were in dire need of people. They wanted to gain more people, not lose them. Without manpower, the development and movement of the camps will inevitably slow down, and that's just the start of it.

Chancellor Igor, the Wise Dragon, kept paying attention to the Scarlet Division Wall while killing as many void creatures as he could.

He was on the lookout for any reinforcements from the void. He didn't want any more surprises, so he was hoping for this to be the last wave, though he also learned to never trust the void or judge according to common sense.

There weren't any signs of reinforcements so far, but the Chancellor didn't get complacent. Actually, instead of feeling relieved that the invasion was about to end, he actually feels a little suspicious still.

'Something's really wrong.' he muttered inwardly.

The instincts of a wise dragon are very seldom wrong. In fact, the stranger the situation was, the more accurate it got. So, when the Wise Dragon still felt uncomfortable after all this, he, of course, trusted his instincts, knowing they wouldn't fail him at times like this.

Unfortunately, he just couldn't pinpoint where this unease was coming from. Now, don't get him wrong; he knows that it's coming from the Void. But to what aspect of it exactly is precisely the unknown factor?

His attention was momentarily attracted to huge explosions and flashing lights erupting near him.

He saw his fellow Chancellors and the Paragons reaping the lives of void creatures like wheat. They killed with ruthless and merciless efficiency. If this continued, it wouldn't take long before they completely eradicated the remaining void creatures.

'I don't think they need me here anymore,' he mused to himself, still staying vigilant.

His attention then shifted to the situation below. His face fell as he saw the deep pool of void submerging the camp beneath. The only things that are visible were those buildings that have that security bubble that could be deployed to protect them. Those buildings that don't have that were gone now, mostly likely withered to nothingness by the Void.

Knowing that the energy bubble won't stay up permanently and that the longer it's around, the higher it will cost the guardians, he decided to assist with the clean-up.@@@@

As he skillfully manipulated the spell, he was also feeling the effects of time and space refinement on himself. Many people have fallen in this part because, at this point, the experience was too immersing, making them falter in their control over the spell. Yet Cedric, especially with his numerous thought chambers, didn't have this kind of problem.

The feeling of his physique being eroded by time and space was novel. It was harmful, yet enriching at the same time. These elements were destroying him at a cellular level, yet it's also promoting his physique to give birth to stronger cells that could endure the erosion of all the elements that it had to endure so far.

After the Time and Space Laws come the Lightning Laws. For this, Cedric had to endure at least 99 lightning strikes coming from nowhere. He had to face the destructive and punishing aspect of lightning that also chipped away further at the shackles of evolution deep within him.

These 99 lightning strikes were continuous too. There's barely any delay in between each strike, so one has to endure the violent energies wreaking havoc inside their bodies without losing control. Even more people died in this process. And it's all for the sake of having that small chance to become a cosmic-level expert in the future.

But unlike them, Cedric's experience was too different. So different that it's almost unfair...

Sure, he does look rather morbid right now. His body was being destroyed and healed at the same time that it couldn't keep its proper shape. His blood splattered on the walls of the seclusion chambers; his organs were exposed, and so were his bones. Each one was undergoing the baptism at the same time.

But unlike others, Cedric wasn't truly struggling here. Hell, one could even say that he's having a leisurely time with this breakthrough. Sure, it was painful, very much so, and yes, it's extremely demanding in terms of mental acuity. But to Cedric, who's been through a lot? Yeah, this was nothing.

Being eaten alive by zombies was far worse than this.

And it's because of this that Cedric himself doubted if he's really doing this properly.

He had gone through numerous records of people's breakthroughs before; he even interviewed some personally. And all of them universally said that it's too difficult and painful. They won't lie to him just to scare him off.

And yet here he was, already inducting the elements of Life and Death Laws to further improve his qualifications, and it still barely moved his indomitable spirit.

Nevertheless, he continued despite his doubts. He relished in the experience of his breakthrough, feeling the end getting nearer.

Alas, he should've known that something was definitely up. For it is simply illegal for Cedric to have an easy time at such an important breakthrough like this.

After the Life and Death Laws refinement, Karmic Laws should follow. And since it came by itself and was nigh impossible to grasp, one could only wait for it and prepare themselves as best as they could.

Unfortunately, Karma wasn't the thing that came to Cedric...
