Chapter 405 Revelation
Chapter 405 Revelation
Hitsugaya was perplexed by his explanation and then glanced at him and asked with a sinking expression, his voice hollowed by dread, "Where is Hinamori? Tell me you haven't..."
Aizen glanced at him amusingly and replied, "You already know, Captain Hitsugaya. Deep down, you always knew what you would find."
"You! What have you done to her, Aizen?! You monster!"
Hitsugaya exclaimed angrily, a guttural sound of pure agony, and rushed past him and Gin toward the dark room, his spiritual pressure erupting in a blast of frozen air.
Suddenly his footsteps halted midway as he discovered Hinamori lying on the ground, a single, gaping wound in her chest. The sight froze his heart, colder than any ice he could command.
Aizen's apologetic voice sounded from behind, "I apologize for my carelessness, Captain Hitsugaya; I let you find her like this; I should have chopped her up and hidden the pieces. I underestimated your fragile sensibilities." The words were a deliberate, brutal insult.
Stunned by this, a cold, icy terror gripping his soul, Hitsugaya turned around and asked looking at Aizen, "Have you been conspiring with Gin since the period before faking your death? Was it all a lie, every single smile?"
Aizen glanced at him appreciatively and nodded, replying, "Indeed we have been doing it since the beginning. You have a surprisingly sharp mind for a child. I never considered anyone but Gin to be my lieutenant ever since he became a captain."
Hitsugaya was irritated after hearing him, his vision blurring with tears of shame and rage, and accused him, "You have been deceiving Hinamori and the other Shinigami this whole time! You pretended to be her friend, her mentor!"
Aizen shook his head and denied, "I never thought of it like this, I just perceived it as none of them recognizing my true identity. The fault is not in the actor, but in the audience's willingness to be deceived."
Demanding to know how Aizen could blame them and be so cruel, Hitsugaya reminds him that Hinamori joined the Gotei 13 and worked hard just to be at his side, her devotion absolute, only for Aizen to acknowledge this as making her very easy to manipulate and pointing to this as the reason he requested her to join his division, his expression utterly detached.
As Hitsugaya stares at him in astonishment, the shock momentarily paralyzing him, Aizen instructs him to remember that admiration is the state furthest from understanding, his voice a philosophical whisper of ultimate betrayal.
In response, Hitsugaya grasped his Zanpakuto, the air around him flash-freezing with raw power, and unleashed a surge of Reiatsu that destroyed the Seijotokyorin, the stone walls fracturing under the spiritual pressure, leading Aizen and Gin to leap out to the ground outside, before activating his Bankai, Daiguren Hyorinmaru, which grants him a large pair of ice wings that spread across the sky, an ice dragon encasing his right arm, and ice claws on his left hand, and twelve large ice petals comprising three lotuses floating in the air behind him. The air temperature plummeted instantly, frosting the ground in a wide radius.
When Hitsugaya attacks him with three slashes of ice, the sheer speed of his fury leaving shimmering, deadly trails in the air, Aizen leaps over him and lands on the other end of the platform with unsettling grace, and while Unohana and Isane join them in the chamber, their expressions grim.
Hitsugaya glanced at Aizen angrily, a tear of pure rage freezing on his cheek, and roared, "Aizen, I will kill you! By my Zanpakuto, I swear it!"
"Captain Hitsugaya, Don't threaten while acting rashly, it makes you seems rather weak. Your emotions are clouding your judgment, little one." Aizen grinned and admonished his threats, his eyes sparkling with amusement.
"Aizen!!!"
Hitsugaya roared again, the sound tearing from his throat, and leaped forward, seemingly stab Aizen through the chest before encasing him in a towering column of ice. The impact was visceral, the sound of freezing water a sharp hiss.
However, Aizen continues to grin within the ice, the perfect image of contempt, and fades away like a ghost, which leaves Hitsugaya shocked, his jaw slack with disbelief, as the real Aizen appears behind him, his Reiatsu signature perfectly masked, and slashes Hitsugaya across the chest with brutal force, causing him to collapse in shock while bleeding heavily as Daiguren Hyorinmaru breaks apart and dissolves around him.
While Hitsugaya collapses in the ice-encrusted chamber, the spiritual coldness matching the shock in his heart, Aizen comments on how nice it is to see ice at this time of year and suggests to Gin that they depart, his voice as casual as if discussing the weather.
Suddenly, Aizen and Gin are confronted by Unohana, who stands with Isane, their combined Reiatsu a heavy, defensive shield.
"I knew you would be here, Aizen. And don't mind, I can't address you as Captain anymore, since you are simply a traitor now. Your mask has finally shattered." Unohana spoke looking at him solemnly, her usually tranquil face etched with a rare, deadly seriousness.
After greeting Unohana, the smile never leaving his lips, Aizen inquires if it really took her this long to figure out where he was, and when Unohana details how the Seijotokyorin being the only absolutely off-limits area in the Seireitei makes it the perfect place to hide for someone who had elaborately faked his own death and made a corpse doll, Aizen admits she is almost correct before revealing he did not come here to hide and his fake body was not a doll as he holds it, the false husk, in his hand, a chilling trophy.
With a shocked Unohana and Isane wondering when he got his fake body, Aizen states that he had it in his hand the entire time, but simply did not allow them to see it until now, an illusion so complete it was a slap to their senses.
After promising that they will understand soon enough, Aizen releases his Shikai, Kyōka Suigetsu, the blade shimmering like water in the light, causing the fake body in his hands to burst apart into a cloud of spiritual particles, revealing his Zanpakuto held upside-down in his hand.
While Unohana and Isane stare in astonishment, Aizen lets go of his Zanpakuto, which embeds itself in the platform underneath his feet, and explains that its ability is complete hypnosis, though Isane is left in disbelief by this claim because of what Aizen told her prior, the memory of his former lie a painful echo in her mind.
