Chapter 132 132: What The Carpet Concealed
Chapter 132 132: What The Carpet Concealed
A little bit of naughty can make an ordinary day a lot more fun.
But Zane wasn't interested in men and he certainly didn't have tapping bathroom tiles as an idea for being naughty.
However, he trusted Xavier and looked around the bathroom.
The bathroom wasn't small.
It was bigger than Zane's hut.
But it was smaller than the one in the Citadel.
It also had a window big enough for a man to fit inside it.
It was clean.
The wall smelled of lavender or sandal. Not that Zane knew how lavender and sandal smelled. He only heard that they smell great so he compares any pleasant fragrance with them.
Xavier tapped some more tiles and after a few seconds, one tile made a different sound.
A hollow one.
"Remove it."
Xavier gestured to Zane.
Zane wasn't sure if he had enough strength to remove it but he would try.
He sat on one knee and reached out for it.
He held it and prepared himself to use all the strength he had to pluck out the tile from the floor.
He pursed his lips and finally pulled the tile out with all his strength.
But he did all that only to…
"Hnghh!"
TUD!
Slam his head on the wall behind him.
The tile came off as easy as death comes to gutterborns.
Xavier's laughter echoed in the bathroom and Zane rubbed his head.
"What was that?"
"Just messing around."
Zane would have scolded but Xavier's laughter vanished his anger and he too ended up smiling.
After a second, Xavier stopped laughing and looked at the spot where the tile had come off.
Zane did the same and both of them saw a blue plastic type of thing.
"What is this?" He asked.
Xavier reached out his hand towards it.
"It's a hole."
"Why?"
"Some architectural issues or I don't know. That's why this house suffers from rats. It's here from the start."
"I see. That's why this plastic sheet is there to cover it. But why though? Just fix the tile hard enough and the hole is gone."
"Where will I keep this plastic then?"
Zane frowned. "You can keep it anywhere. It's plastic."
Xavier shook his head.
"This is the only place where it can fit."
"What are you talking about?"
"Watch."
Xavier held the plastic and while watching Zane, he took it out.
He kept taking it out.
More.
Zane's eyes widened as the plastic didn't end.
It kept coming out.
Zane leaned forward and tried to look inside the hole but he couldn't see anything as the plastic ate the space.
He didn't expect the plastic to be of such length and he certainly didn't expect it to be hidden inside a hole in the bathroom.
But now Xavier's words made sense.
The plastic couldn't be kept anywhere.
Even if folded, the plastic would still take a lot of space and it would be a hard time to fold it in the first place.
Zane waited for the plastic to end and now he was curious to see how long it really was.
The floor of the bathroom got covered with it and Xavier handed one part to Zane as well.
"Keep pulling."
Zane did just that as both men pulled out the never ending plastic.
The women in the slums should wear this. They wouldn't be raped as often as now.
Time went by and Zane's shoulders ached with the intensity of dying stars.
His whole body drenched in sweat and Xavier was the same.
But unlike Zane, Xavier didn't slow down and kept pulling.
Zane felt bad seeing the man working hard alone so he also gritted his teeth and fastened the process as well.
After, who knows how long, the end of the plastic came to the vision and a few more minutes passed until it finally ended.
Zane slumped on the floor.
He sat on the scattered plastic on the ground but he didn't care.
He panted heavily but he was surprised to see Xavier standing all fine.
What does he eat?
Zane didn't have the strength to be jealous.
"What will you do with this? Protect the whole Dwarkam from rain drops?"
Xavier chuckled.
"I am going to the roof. I will return soon. Rest till then."
"You don't have to tell me that."
Xavier nodded and gathered as much plastic he could on his arms and opened the window of the bathroom.
Zane watched the man and in front of his eyes, the man climbed outside the window.
Zane would have stood to watch where he was going but he didn't have strength for that.
He surely was surprised though.
Xavier went to the roof of his house simply by his upper body strength and Zane felt his bones ache more just by seeing that.
He rested his head at the wall of the bathroom and waited for Xavier to return.
He also felt the plastic being pulled from under him.
Zane picked himself up a bit for it to pass smoothly and only after making sure he wasn't sitting on the plastic, he rested again.
He closed his eyes and after a few seconds, he saw darkness.
Heavy darkness.
Not the kind that people see with closed eyes.
The kind when people know that outside was also darkness.
Zane shot open his eyes and he was right.
The light coming from outside vanished.
In front of the bathroom window a blue plastic sheet hung.
Is this what it is used for? To cover the whole house?
Zane got up.
He had to see it.
How will he come down now?
THUMP!
… He will jump. Of course.
Zane left the bathroom and went downstairs.
He saw Xavier entering from the broken wall side and dashed towards him.
"This is not what I meant when I asked for private space."
"I know. But this was important. I don't want anyone to know."
"What?"
Xavier didn't reply and went to the center of the hall of his house.
He shifted the sofa aside and then held one corner of the carpet.
Zane saw the stain of his vomit on it and apologized inside his heart.
Xavier didn't care anymore about the stain as in one full motion…
SWIP!
He yanked the carpet from the floor.
Dust flew off but as it settled, Zane saw what the carpet was hiding.
A handle.
A round handle made of thick steel.
A handle that could only belong to a door.
Zane jerked his eyes at Xavier.
Xavier moved forward and held the handle.
He looked at Zane and pulled the handle towards the sky.
The next second, a door presented itself in front of Zane.
"What is this?"
Xavier grinned and spread his arms.
"The Downtown."
