Chapter 466: Success!
Chapter 466: Success!
Old Ren thought about the sale of his shop to Lin Xuan Qi for a moment and said, "So, are you sure you will take in all the current workers I have right now?"
"I’m sure of that.
"And I need you to guarantee that they can work and produce the rice noodles, rice cakes and rice paper rolls on their own for me." Lin Xuan Qi said.
He wasn’t knowledgeable with the trade so he needed the workers to be able to work and produce without Old Ren around.
"Sure, they already do so now. I can’t do much with my back pain.
"I have this if you are not comfortable..." Old Ren opened a drawer in the counter and took out some pieces of paper with notes on them.
"These notes tell you how to make the rice noodles, rice cakes and rice paper rolls the way I’ve been doing it ever since I learned it from my father." He waved the pieces of paper while he said.
Lin Xuan Qi nodded his head, felt that it was good enough of a guarantee for him and said, "Thanks for the assurance."
"Then... would forty taels of gold be too much for you?" Old Ren asked and his eyes darted at Hun Xiong Kun.
He wasn’t sure of the price he should be asking for.
Hun Xiong Kun didn’t think that it was too unreasonable.
The land and the physical shop itself would have cost around that range.
It was somewhat of a steal for Lin Xuan Qi with the added trade secret of making the rice noodles, rice cakes and rice paper rolls.
Lin Xuan Qi thought that it was a good deal too.
It was within his budget for the business and it was so much less than he had paid for the inn and factories earlier.
He didn’t hesitate and said, "Deal. I’ll send you the money later."
"That’s... That’s wonderful." Old Ren was surprised at how quick it was and he cupped his hands at Lin Xuan Qi.
"I’m sure Master Lin would go very far with his swift and decisive actions."
Lin Xuan Qi cupped his hands back at Old Ren with a smile and said, "You flatter me.
"I will send the money later and we should be able to finish up the transaction by today."
He turned to Hun Xiong Kun and said, "Thank you so much for the help too."
"It’s nothing much. As business partners we should help each other whenever possible." Hun Xiong Kun smiled and brushed off the compliments from Lin Xuan Qi.
Lin Xuan Qi nodded his head and said, "I will check on the kelp tomorrow and get back to you soon after."
"There’s no hurry, it’s winter now. You can wait until it gets warmer to do so." Hun Xiong Kun said apologetically that he had made Lin Xuan Qi travel out in the cold.
But Lin Xuan Qi shook his head and smiled back at him, not saying anything much.
It was the best time for the fishmongers to farm the kelp so he had to do so within this time period.
And he didn’t want them to miss out on it.
The consequences of them not doing so would affect his production for the next year.
So the trip to Bai Sha village was inevitable.
"I would like to have a look around the shop if I can." Lin Xuan Qi turned his focus back onto the shop and said to Old Ren.
"Sure, come with me." Old Ren was more than happy to do so and he brought Lin Xuan Qi around.
Lin Xuan Qi was introduced to the workers and briefed patiently on how things were done by Old Ren.
He was even able to have a hands-on session on making the rice noodles, rice cakes and rice paper rolls, with Old Ren teaching him by the side.
It helped him tremendously with the process of making them and Old Ren was open to all questions from him.
Old Ren gave him the sense that he wanted the trade to be passed on successfully and it wasn’t a hands-off sale of the business for Old Ren.
Lin Xuan Qi appreciated the openness and helpfulness he got from Old Ren.
"Thanks so much for the introduction." He cupped his hands at Old Ren and said when they were done with everything.
Old Ren glanced around at the shop he had been with for so many years and said, "It’s what I would have to do...
"Do know that this is only a small business without much profit.
"Please don’t sell it off again soon."
"Don’t worry about that." Lin Xuan Qi replied and said.
He wouldn’t have a cost on the rice from the system, so his profit margin would be much more than what Old Ren could get.
With that in mind, Lin Xuan Qi wasn’t too worried about not having any profits.
And once he got more knowledgeable about the business, he could also start to optimize the process or expand the operations later on, like having the inn as the customer for the produce from the rice shop.
"Then, I shall get back and send the money later to complete our deal." Lin Xuan Qi said and bid Old Ren farewell.
He also said farewell to Hun Xiong Kun before heading back to his mansion.
Once he was back at the mansion, he headed straight to find Yue Jie for the taels of gold to pay for the deal.
And after paying the forty taels of gold, he would have around one hundred and twenty two taels of gold left.
Lin Xuan Qi couldn’t help but feel poor again immediately.
He gave out a sigh looking at the taels of gold he had left.
It takes so much effort to accumulate them but they were gone so fast. He lamented silently to himself.
However, he knew that it was something that had to be done to expand the Lin Clan for more prosperity and he wasn’t planning to stop anytime soon.
"It’s time for dinner." His thoughts were stopped by Xiu’s voice outside the room and he stood up for dinner.
