Chapter 81: A Test
Chapter 81: A Test
"Goodness gracious, Godric! The members of your guild are truly amusing!" Lord Gavin clapped his hands with amusement written on his face. He glanced at Master Godric before saying, "You really know how to pick up people."
Master Godric did not say anything, simply glanced at the man with a smile. His shrewd eyes fell on Azriel whose face was twisted and it became even more twisted when he heard Lord Gavin say,
"How about you let me become your disciple? Teach me how to connect nerves, will you? In return, I will help you with the healing spells?"
"Lord Gavin, what are you saying?" Azriel spoke with a flattering smile on his face. "It's good enough that someone like him is being revered by a powerful healer such as you. How can he—"
"Sure," before Azriel could finish speaking, Damien interrupted him. Azriel turned and glared at him with a look of loathing but Damien did not even glance at him. He said, "But rather than a disciple, how about becoming partners? There are a lot of things that I look forward to learning from you, Lord Gavin."
"Same here, my boy. Same here."
"Lord Gavin—"
"Azriel," Master Godric interrupted the man before he could say anything else.
Azriel stiffened and raised his head to look at Master Godric who said to him, "Come with me."
Master Godric turned on his feet before stepping out of the infirmary, Gina followed him while Azriel stayed where he stood. However, a second later he stepped out of the infirmary and walked over to the small office of Master Godric.
"Master," he said to announce his presence, for Master Godric was looking at the large mullion windows behind his table.
Master Godric turned on the balls as Gina stepped inside the office with a flagon of fire whisky.
She gave him a look of pure disgust before walking past him.
"Azriel," Master Godric nodded at him before taking a seat on the cushioned chair. "Sit," he said while tipping his chin at the chair opposite him.
"That's not,"
"Azriel," Master Godric interrupted him once again before saying, "Either you stop bringing the murky waters of the Temple into my guild or you stop being a member of this guild. Make your choice and tell me."
"You— you are asking me to stop associating with the temple?" Azriel was stunned. In his mind, this guild was just a stepping stone for him to pave his way to the temple where he would join hands with the higher-ranking healers.
He had never once thought about stopping his association with the healers.
"Yes," Master Godric replied. In fact, he knew that he couldn't stop Azriel from associating with the temple. This choice that he had put in front of Azriel was simply to test where his loyalty lies.
Azriel stared at Master Godric mutinously before getting up from the chair. He said, "You will regret it."
After throwing those words, he turned on his feet and stormed out of the office.
Gina watched him leave before turning to look at Master Godric. "Was that the right thing to do?"
"Why? Do you think that I made a mistake?" Master Godric asked.
"No," Gina shook her head and replied. "I just wonder if it is right to let him go like that."
Master Godric sighed as he leaned back on his chair.
He turned his head and stared out of the windows before stating in an airy voice, "Soon war will be heading towards us, Gina. Men like Azriel will only lead us to our doom."
