Chapter 403 - 396: Get Rid of Sarah Shelby Along the Way
She turned to Autumn Shelby, her eyes growing even colder. "Autumn Shelby, if you bully Clara again, I swear I’ll beat you up every single time I find out. And don’t give me any of that ’I’m the older sister’ crap. If you don’t believe me, go ahead and try me."
Having said her piece, she didn’t even bother to look up again. She just turned, walked out of the study, and went downstairs.
Autumn Shelby’s hands clenched into fists, her eyes burning with such rage as she stared at the doorway that they could have shot fire. ’I should charge downstairs, pin that little bitch Sarah down, and beat her senseless!’
But when she caught sight of her father out of the corner of her eye, she forced her anger back down.
The anger on Evan Shelby’s face was even more pronounced. ’Clearly, Sarah’s behavior today has infuriated him,’ Autumn thought. ’This is my chance to play the part of the obedient, caring daughter. If I can destroy things between Seth Quinn and Clara Grant while also taking care of Sarah, that would be absolutely perfect!’
And so, her expression immediately shifted, becoming one of aggrieved forbearance. "Dad, please don’t blame Sarah. I’m afraid she’s never truly held me in her heart as a sister. That must be why she’d come running here to blame me all for the sake of a friend, right?
It’s no wonder, really. She and Clara Grant have known each other for years, and Sarah has never liked me much. On top of that, I haven’t even seen her for over a year. She’s spent far more time with Clara Grant than with me, her actual sister.
So, in her heart, Clara Grant is naturally more important than I am. I don’t blame her for that. But what angers me is her complete lack of concern for the Shelby Family—and for you, Dad. Even if I’m trying to win Seth Quinn back, I’m only doing it for the good of the family, for the sake of our future.
But her? It’s like the Shelby Family’s affairs have nothing to do with her. She acts as if she couldn’t care less about what happens to our family’s future. And maybe she really doesn’t. After all, she said it herself just now—she has no interest in her identity as the second daughter of the Shelby Family!"
"Exactly, Evan. Look how spoiled that girl Sarah has become!" Yvette Zimmerman quickly chimed in, backing up her daughter. "As a daughter of the Shelby Family, she should naturally put the family’s interests first. But her...
Not only does she lack this awareness, she dared to attack her own sister—right in front of us—and all for an outsider. Isn’t that a clear case of siding with an outsider over her own family?
And you heard what she said as she left, didn’t you? That if Autumn tries to see Seth Quinn again, she’ll beat her up every single time? Isn’t she intentionally trying to make our plan for an alliance with the Quinn Family fall through?
If you ask me, she’s just idle. If we found something to keep her busy, she probably wouldn’t have the energy to cause all this trouble."
As she spoke, Yvette Zimmerman watched Evan Shelby’s expression. Seeing him fall into a thoughtful silence as he listened, she knew she had gotten through to him. Secretly pleased, she changed the subject.
"However, her visit today did bring us one piece of good news. Didn’t she say Clara Grant and Seth Quinn are on the verge of breaking up? This is our Autumn’s chance, isn’t it? Maybe our Autumn will soon become the official young madam of the Quinn family."
As she said this, however, her brow furrowed and she sighed. "But, if that girl Sarah really insists on interfering, I don’t know if that wish can ever come true."
Evan Shelby said nothing, his gaze lowered in deep thought.
Autumn Shelby shot Yvette Zimmerman a look. Yvette understood and opened her mouth, about to say more, when Evan Shelby suddenly raised his head and looked directly at Autumn.
