Chapter 366 - 359: First Time Meeting the In-Laws, No Experience
Yara Jarvis looked up, but before she could say anything, Cedric Grant, who was standing nearby, chimed in. "How old are you? You can’t even find your own things. You still need your mother to find a tube of toothpaste for you!"
Although Cedric Grant’s voice wasn’t loud, you could tell he was displeased. Yara Jarvis quickly said, "I was the one who put that toothpaste away yesterday, so it’s natural she wouldn’t know where it is. Cedric, you go have breakfast first. I’ll go help Chloe find it."
With that, she went upstairs.
The two entered Chloe’s room together. The moment they were inside, Chloe looked aggrieved. "Mom, did you see Dad’s attitude toward me? I’ve noticed that ever since Clara Grant and Seth Quinn’s relationship came out two days ago, he hasn’t been treating us the same."
Yara Jarvis quickly shut the door and pulled her daughter aside. "Keep your voice down. Your father will get upset if he hears you. What did you call me up here for?"
Chloe Grant leaned in and whispered something in her ear. Yara Jarvis looked both shocked and hesitant. "Now? But your father always has the key on him. It won’t be easy to get."
"Oh, Mom, we have to do it whether it’s easy or not. Do you really want to wait for Clara Grant to marry into the Quinn family, for Dad to get close with her and her mother again, and for him to give us the cold shoulder?
"Just look at Dad a minute ago. Clara Grant hasn’t even married Seth Quinn yet, and he’s already treating us like this. What do you think will happen if she succeeds? Mom, do you really want us to be cast out again? To spend the rest of our lives unable to hold our heads high in front of everyone?"
Yara Jarvis shook her head instinctively. Of course, she didn’t want to go back to her old life, a life spent with people pointing fingers and whispering behind her back.
Besides, she had only been the official Mrs. Grant for a little over a year. ’Am I going to be abandoned again?’
Finally, she looked up at Chloe, her mind made up. "Alright. I’ll figure something out."
...
After Autumn Shelby hung up the phone, she left the house without a moment’s hesitation. She didn’t care about the consequences anymore; she had to meet Seth Quinn’s parents before Clara Grant did.
Her meeting with Jenna Quinn yesterday had yielded no progress, and she hadn’t even finished saying what she’d wanted to say. Since the situation was urgent, she couldn’t worry about the finer points. She would just go and deal with it as it came.
She had fled the marriage due to illness, sure, but she was still the true eldest daughter of the Shelby family. Her standing was far nobler than Clara Grant’s disgraceful background.
Seeing her leave, Yvette Zimmerman called out from behind, "Autumn, where are you going? Aren’t you going to eat breakfast?"
Autumn Shelby didn’t even look back. "I’m not eating. I have to go out."
Evan Shelby merely glanced at her without a word, while Cherie Rhodes watched her go, a thoughtful look on her face, though she quickly averted her gaze.
...
In Seth Quinn’s car, Clara Grant was nervous. She wrung her hands restlessly and subconsciously pursed her lips.
Seth Quinn turned his head, chuckling softly at the sight of her. He freed his right hand and gave hers a gentle squeeze. "Clara, you don’t have to be nervous."
"I-I’m not nervous." Clara Grant turned to look at him, forcing a brittle smile onto her face.
But as soon as the words were out, she suddenly sighed, her resolve deflating. "What if your parents don’t like me?"
’Alright, she had to admit she was very nervous. After all, it was her first time meeting the in-laws. She had no experience.’
Seth Quinn looked at her with a smile. "And you say you’re not nervous? Relax. My parents are going to love you."
’After all, his father was the one who’d made the final call, and his mother had been genuinely pleased after meeting her.’
Clara Grant’s expression, however, turned serious and solemn. She stared intently at Seth Quinn and asked, "But what if they don’t? What if your parents don’t like me and won’t agree to let me marry you? What would you do then?"
